Wiscombe Park 500 Owners Association Hillclimb
The 500 OA is another club with a long association with Wiscombe Park – holding their first event on the hill in 1989. It is thought that the roots of the 500OA were established in the Wiscombe paddock with discussions held between drivers in the late 60’s. The 500OA members will be racing their 500cc motor bike engined cars – a lot of these will be the well known Cooper chassis – the Formula 3 car of the 50’s and 60’s. Many famous names started their racing careers in a Cooper – the list includes Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham and John Surtees. From 1951 to 1961 the powerful and nimble 500cc Cooper-JAP cars dominated the British Hillclimb Championship producing multiple titles for Ken Wharton (4), Tony Marsh (3 ) and David Boshier -Jones (3). In a varied entry, we also have Triumph, MG , Morgan, Austin 7 and a selection of classic and BMW Mini’s from Downton MC.
