WRC Safari Rally Kenya 2026
The Safari Rally Kenya, born in 1953 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, began as an endurance epic across East Africa, covering thousands of kilometers on open public roads. It joined the World Rally Championship in 1973, earning fame as the toughest event due to its grueling terrain, unpredictable weather, and mechanical demands. Renowned for its rough gravel, deep ruts, and sudden rains turning stages into quagmires, the rally tests crews' resilience like no other. Wildlife encounters, from giraffes to zebras, add a unique Kenyan flair, blending motorsport with natural spectacle. After a hiatus from 2003 to 2020 due to financial issues, it returned in 2021 with a modernized format around Naivasha, preserving its heritage while adapting to contemporary standards. Kenyan legends like Shekhar Mehta and Carl Tundo have shone, with the event securing a WRC spot until 2026.
